A Single Mom’s Dream

They tell you to watch for red flags.

To protect your heart.

To be careful who you let around your child.

And so you do.

You carry the weight of every decision,
every introduction,
every possibility of getting it wrong.

Because when you’re a mother,
it isn’t just your heart on the line.

It’s theirs too.

Then one day,
someone shows up who doesn’t make promises.

He just starts showing up.

In the little things.

The way he gets down on the floor to play.

The way he patiently teaches her things
and watches her discover something new.

The way he helps her when she needs it,
never acting like she’s a burden.

The way he looks for places to take her,
things to do,
memories to make.

The way he wraps his arms around her
when she runs in for a hug.

The way he cares when nobody is watching.

And slowly, without realizing it,
you stop feeling like you’re carrying everything alone.

For the first time in a long time,
you don’t feel like a single mom.

You feel supported.

You feel seen.

You feel like someone looked at the chaos,
the responsibility,
the baggage,
the child who came before him—

and chose all of it.

Not because he had to.

Because he wanted to.

And maybe that’s the dream so many single mothers carry quietly.

Not finding someone who loves them.

Finding someone who loves their child, too.
